As expected, the brand name "Sony Ericsson" will cease to exist come 2012.
Following Sony's move to buy out the Swedish telecom company from its share in the joint venture, the Ericsson name will be dropped in the middle of next year, Slash Gear reports.
As part of the revamp, the new all-Sony mobile division will abandon feature phone production and focus exclusively on smartphones.
Sony Ericsson never really caught on as a smartphone competitor in the States, so it will be interesting to see if the changes help the company stake its claim.
