What with all the recent troubles, we've been thinking a lot about the effectiveness of DRM and how it affects paying customers. While we've been pondering and whining, though, Serious Sam 3: BFE developer Croteam has come up with a flawless solution: have an incredibly quick, huge, invincible, bright fuschia scorpion wail on pirates throughout the entirety of the game.

Check out the video. Croteam isn't the first developer to alter gameplay for players who download their game illegally (Earthbound comes to mind), but this is definitely the best example we've ever seen. Unfortunately (to borrow a joke from Rock, Paper Shotgun), this sort of makes us want to pirate the game more. Nothing wrong with a bit of challenge, right?

What do you think? Is this an effective way to combat piracy? Is it even that funny? Leave us a comment or sound off on Facebook or Twitter.
