Not Available Lead

Earlier today, Markus "Notch" Persson stepped aside as the lead developer on Minecraft, a game that started in alpha in May of 2009. Since then, Minecraft's influence has been undeniable, and it's clear from The Word of Notch how much his successor, Jens Bergensten, has had to do with it.

Notch said of working with Bergensten, "I’m amazed at how much in synch we two are when it comes to how to design the game."

It seems that the transition period should be smooth, if it even exists at all.

Expectedly, Notch said he will still have a hand in Minecraft's further development, and he continued by saying that he'll use the time off to "rest and refresh." Lastly, he said that he will start work on "a new project." That said, Mojang's Scrolls is not necessarily a "new" project, so Notch's statement could mean that he's talking about a new IP entirely....let's keep our fingers crossed!
