Microsoft Releases Official Xbox Live iPhone App

But the universal app lacks key features included in the Windows Phone 7 version.

Major Nelson announced the app earlier today on his blog, and it hit the iTunes app store shortly afterward. Called "My Xbox Live," it allows gamers with an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to keep track of their friends and messages, edit their Xbox live profiles and avatars, compare achievements with their friends, and check out what's on the Xbox home channel.

But that's nothing compared to what the equivalent app for Windows phones can do, including searching through the expanding Xbox catalog of movies, TV, games and other multimedia, as well as launching media on your Xbox and controlling it (pause, fast forward, play, etc.) directly from the phone.

So the iOS app is rather gimped compared to the Windows Phone 7 app, but what else do you expect? It's still cool to log in on our iPhones and see what our Live friends are doing. Of course, they're pretty much all playing Skyrim still, so it's not like it makes a difference. Download the app here, and let us know what you think in the comments or on Twitter or Facebook.
