According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is in discussions with affiliated retailers such as Macy’s and Gap to offer overnight delivery to online shoppers for a low subscription fee.

With its product search feature initiating the buying, Google would then oversee the shipping feature, including inventory and availability. The struggling USPS would handle the actual deliveries.

The proposed service would take more than a few cues—and eventually, dollars, too—from Amazon Prime, which currently offers members one or two-day shipping on every purchase for a yearly fee of $79. Google plans to roll it out in San Francisco next year.
