In what a surgeon described as a "freak occurrence," a woman's breast implant was sucked back into her body during her Pilates workout. The woman, who received the implants after undergoing a double mastectomy, also had weakened ribs following a heart operation.
While practicing the Valsalva breathing exercise, doctors believe her pectoralis muscle contracted, pushing the implant through her ribs. She was taken to John Hopkins Hospital, but wasn't in any pain and surgeons were able to locate and reset it.
One About.com writer pointed out that, while the woman may have been in a Pilates class, the maneuver she did wasn't a Pilates exercise. Regardless, as a cancer survivor she's been through more than enough, so we're just glad she's ok.
