Known for its watches, luxury goods manufacturer Mont Blanc is celebrating the invention of the chronograph by Nicolas Rieussec 190 years ago with an online competition dubbed the “One Second Film Festival.” Folks are encouraged to “capture the beauty of a second” via any digital format and upload it to Montblanc’s site for the chance to win a pricey timepiece. After all, as some old beatnik in the promo video for the contest remarks, “Today everybody is a filmmaker,” so the fact that only a single second of quality is required should yield a fair amount of entries (myself included).

Mont Blanc has also put together a compilation video of some of the entries thus far, highlighting the concept’s thin line between photography and moments in motion. In the clip, there are some Nat Geo-style nature shots, lots of kids, beautiful women, and of course, cats, because, well, this is the internets.
