Sunday was an embarrassing day for New York Public Library president Dr. Anthony Marx. Desperately trying to find a way around a marathon, he narrowly avoided one sanitation truck before eventually slamming his Audi A4 into another in East Harlem. All while driving in reverse.
When police arrived on the scene, they immediately knew that Marx was wasted. Despite his initial rush, the race ironically forced Marx to wait for an hour in his car before police took him to the 28th Precinct. How's that for karma. When they finally arrived, the blood alcohol test was administered and Marx blew a .19. That's more than double the legal limit, so he was charged with aggrivated DWI and released without bail after making a cameo in court yesterday.
There's a lesson to be learned here: don't ruin your Sunday Funday (and the car registered to your job) by trying to drunkenly navigate around a marathon because you got impatient. In the end, you'll spend time and money fixing that car and looking for a lawyer.
