Of Course “Password” Is The Most Popular Password This Year

Users deserve to be hacked.

None

In a year marked by high-profile hacks and resulting mass data dumps, perhaps we’ve given Anonymous and its ilk too much credit. Because according to SplashData, who put together a list of the 25 most commonly used passwords from all of the ones stolen by hackers, “password” is once again tops.

Not surprisingly, “12345,” “12345678,” “qwerty,” and “abc123” round out the top five, proving just how lazy/forgetful/perpetually stoned the common user is. And to those who find “passw0rd” to be a rather clever alternative, it isn’t. In fact, it’s 18th on the list.

Noticeably absent, though, were “wordpass” and “ihateschool.”
