After strong ratings and a noticeable improvement in quality, AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a third season, according to Super Hero Hype. This announcement comes only two episodes into the show's second season, but last week's record ratings and the overwhelming hype surrounding each episode has almost ensured the network that the show will continue to be a hit beyond this year.

In a statement regarding the show's renewal, AMC president Charlie Collier released a statement saying, "Today we are pleased to announce that the 'dead' shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels."

It may have started out as a relatively small title over at Image Comics, but The Walking Dead can now be viewed as one of the most profitable and successful independent comic book properties of all time.
