Vinia Mojica almost singlehandedly created a career path for promising "urban" background singers in the early '90s as the velvet tone in the hooks on many of A Tribe Called Quest and Native Tongues' hit recordings throughout the last decade of the 20th century. SO many of us have lived vicariously through those hooks and rhymes it should be criminal. She is still carrying around that lovely voice, and still a lovely and humble person. It was a true pleasure having her rock with us in a showcase format, especially with her resume. I can't front, I was hoping she would've done the "Roller Skating Jam Called Saturdays" (De La Soul) hook acapella—probably would blown the lights outta the place once we all joined in…and hey, Vinia, we're waiting patiently for that solo thing…whenever you're ready to bless us, we are here! Great set last Wednesday following John Robinson, and from what I understand, that solo project is in the works.
