If you thought Apple wouldn't sell a lot ofiPhone 4Ss, you were very, very wrong. In the first press release sent out since the passing of Steve Jobs, Apple announced that it has racked up 1 million pre-orders for its newest smartphone that hits stores on Friday, October 14.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, said in the statement today that the entire company is "blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S." He also said the iPhone 4S pre-order numbers have topped the previous record of 600,000 held by the iPhone 4: “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

Sure, most journalists and analysts were underwhelmed with the 4S due to it being more a refresh than a reinvention, but is anyone really surprised by the consumer response? We're not.
