Pretty much everyone knows that Apple will release a new iPhone in the near future, but until that day comes consumers are still flocking to Cupertino's last mobile creation, the iPhone 4. Last month, the most recent iPhone was once again the best selling phone for both AT&T and Verizion (the only networks currently offering it), despite the fact that it's nearly 15 months old -- eons in the lightspeed world of handset releases.

The continued success of the iPhone 4 despite the sustained arrival of younger, more feature-rich competitors is a win for Apple, which bet earlier in the year that it wouldn't lose consumers by waiting four or more months longer than usual to release a new iPhone.

Current estimates place the next iPhone at an early October release. Meanwhile, the latest contenders for the smartphone throne are arriving in the form of Samsung's latest Galaxy S line.
