In another installment of the "completely out of left field" files, Marvel Studios is apparently getting close to naming Patty Jenkins as the director of Thor 2, according to Deadline. Jenkins is best known for directing the Charlize Theron hooker-drama, Monster, as well as the pilot for the AMC series The Killing.

It was recently rumored that Game Of Thrones director Brian Kirk would be the next person to tackle Thor, but, as is usually the case n Hollywood, those plans seem to have fallen through. Though Jenkins may not have big-budget blockbuster experience, she's definitely more than capable of handling intricate characterizations and grounded motivations, which is something that Thor lacked when it came to the romance between the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

With Thor director Kenneth Branagh backing out of the sequel shortly after the release of the original, Marvel had to scramble to replace him with the sequel's July 26, 2013 release date looming. Even though Jenkins may be an unconventional choice, sometimes it takes someone from outside of the genre to inject new life into these types of movies.
