Trekkies, you can remove yourselves from the edge of your seats: J.J. Abrams has finally confirmed that he will be directing the sequel to his 2009 sci-fi sensation Star Trek.

After months of wavering on a commitment to the follow-up film, we were finally put out of our up-in-the-air misery yesterday when NY Mag's Vulture announced Abrams' plans to begin shooting the film this winter.

Also back on board the USS Enterprise is writer Alex Kurtzman (who penned the original Star Trek script) and some clutch cast members, including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Our only qualms about the news? There's still no word on whether Zoe Saldana will once again bring the sexy to the StarFleet. Consider our fingers crossed.
