The math legend gets his due.

Mathletes rejoice! If you've made your way to Google's homepage this morning, you noticed today's Google Doodle, a chalkboard littered with an equation, which pays homage to the great French mathematician Pierre de Fermat.

Pierre de Fermat, born on August 17, 1601, is remembered most for his contributions to Analytic geometry, Number theory, and for devising Fermat's Principle and Fermat's Last Theorem. What's crazy is Fermat was a lawyer who considered himself to be an amateur mathematician. He died at the age of 63 on January 12, 1665.
