The Flamboyant and the Bohemian — Greenwich Village and How It Became Famous
Next Tour: Sunday, August 7, 1 p.m.
Where: Washington Arch, 5th Ave. south of 8th St.
This stroll through the Village explores the neighborhood's transformation from its early years as a refuge from the yellow fever epidemic, to its status as a hub for artists and protesters for gay and women's rights. The landmarking and preservation controversies of today will also be covered. The walk pays homage to the artists the area has produced by taking you through the coffeehouses of the Beat Generation, among other locations.
