With the recent backlash it suffered at the news it was changing its subscription plans and raising its prices, the last thing Netflix needed was yet another company vying for a piece of the streaming media pie. But PC Mag is reporting that Walmart today announced that it was doing just that.

Teaming up with video streaming company Vudu, Walmart will now allow customers to purchase digital movies directly from its websites. Once purchased, the movies can be viewed directly on the Walmart website, or on any Vudu-compliant device like Sony's PlayStation 3 or a Blu-ray player. Customers can begin renting streaming movies now.
