Well, that's all the stylus wrote. Palm, the company that brought handheld computing to the masses with its line of Palm Pilot personal digital assistants, is offically no more. A year after purchasing the company last year for $1.8 billion, HP has decided to kill off the Palm name.

Palm will still exist in spirit, though, as HP will retain Palm's mobile technology and software, including WebOS, for use in its own mobile divisions. So WebOS, the new Veer smartphone, and upcoming TouchPad will all be branded HP.
