By now, if you read movie news on a daily basis, you should know that director Ruben Fleischer's about-to-happen flick The Gangster Squad is an adaptation of Will Beal's series of Los Angeles Times articles chronicling the actions of a 1940s LAPD team dedicated to exorcising corruption and racketeering from within the City of Angels. And that its cast is already top-notch. Well, now you can add talented character actor Giovanni Ribisi into the mix.

Ribisi will play Conway Keeler, a tech-savvy officer of the law who specializes in surveillance. Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, and Michael Pena are all on board and ready to play the honest coppers who must take down East Coast gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn).

In his feature debut, Zombieland , Fleischer was able to get strong performances from an impressive, though not nearly as A-list, cast. And that seems to continue with his next film, 30 Minutes or Less (due out August 12), which stars Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, and Jesse Eisenberg, and looks funny as hell.

As for The Gangster Squad, there's no start date set yet, but Fleischer is now in pre-production.
