Not content to sit on the sidelines while Google+ hogs the spotlight, Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that Facebook will be launching an as-yet-unnamed new product or service next week. Speaking to reporters, Zuck said only that whatever it was had been produced in the company's new 40-person Seattle office and would be "something awesome."

While we won't know what that something is for a few days now, Facebook's long-awaited iPad app has certainly been widely speculated about in recent weeks. There has also been talk of a possible photo-sharing or video-streaming feature, and even a Facebook web browser.

Insiders think the announcement is likely to take place on Wednesday, July 6. We'll keep you posted.
