New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter is fresh off the disabled list and ready to continue his quest for 3,000 hits. And as he makes the pilgrimage toward history, HBO and MLB Productions will be their to chronicle things.

The two companies announced a partnership on Tuesday to produce Derek Jeter 3K, a documentary special about Jeter's milestone. The hour-long special will feature behind-the-scenes footage focusing on Jeter, plus exclusive interviews in the days following hit 3,000.

"The 3,000 hit plateau is one of the most recognizable feats in our great game," New York Yankees President Randy Levine said. "To have the days surrounding Derek’s remarkable achievement chronicled by Major League Baseball Productions and HBO ensures that this historic milestone will be captured with the type of style and professionalism he has become so synonymous with."
