When it was reported that Apple would not be announcing a new iPhone at the 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month, rumors of a modest update of Apple's smartphone began to circulate. However, today BGR says it has gotten word from a trusted source that the next iPhone will not just feature a speed bump, but a radical new case design as well.

This rumor falls inline with a report This Is My Next made earlier this year, saying the next iPhone may feature a new teardrop-shaped design. The general thinking seems to be that Apple will release the new iPhone at an event in September where it usually announces its iPod news, but BGR's source says Apple may introduce the phone at an event in early August.
