4. Fantastic Knight (iOS)

Mix a little old school hack-and-slash with today’s speedy new brand of combat and you get Minoraxis’ Fantasy Knight, a $2.99 action-fest. No, none of the JRPG-styled dialogue and story is actually worth reading (when is it, really?), but running around and thrashing enemies is incredibly fun, and the controls are laid out well on the bottom half of your touchscreen. Good thing, too, because when your blocky little avatar gets in a fight—which happens, oh, every five seconds or so—you’ll pound attack and special and potion “buttons” with the furor normally reserved for a controller and God of War. Now if only that pint-sized world map were a little more useful so you could actually get somewhere…
VERDICT: Diablo-esque hack-and-slash with a dash of Bayonetta? Sign us up.
