Life has been pretty good to Jaleel White, the actor who turned suspenders into the universal symbol of geekdom playing Steve Urkel on Family Matters. Since the show ended, he has been putting in work as a producer and voice talent. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the highest paid black kid in the history of television shared his growing pains with the American society magazine, and gave an update on his current progress.
Having just starred in the kid-centric Judy Moody & The NOT Bummer Summer starring Jordana Beatty as the precocious third grader, White has plans to set out to make his own film. "I'm keeping it under wraps, but I will tell you it's a romantic comedy that Joel Zwick is producing," he revealed. "He directed My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I wrote the script four years ago and I'm really excited about this project."
On top of the popular wedding movie, Zwick has tons of hit sitcoms under his belt, including Family Matters. As the former child star hops into the transformation chamber to become a first-time director, who is better suited to helm a rom-com than a man who's faced countless rejections?
