The house Arianna built is getting 35.5 million uniques per month compared with The Grey Lady's 33.6 million uniques. It marks something of a changing of the guard not only because the venerable is much older than HuffPo, but because the kind of original reporting the Times does has been struggling to hold on to an audience in a crowded field of hybrid news/entertainment sites and aggregators. The Times also recently erected a paywall, which has caused about a 10 percent dip in viewership according to the Times's David Carr.
