Forgive them for having one of the most awkwardly navigable websites on the planet—the L.A. Film Fest redeems themselves by presenting this documentary about the history (and demise) of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest. Actor Michael Rapaport—fondly known as Dick Ritchie, the down-on-his-luck actor in 1993’s True Romance—gets behind the camera to take a look back at the group’s roots and its influence on hip-hop in general, utilizing interviews with Pharrell Williams, Common, Questlove, the Beastie Boys, and all the members of Tribe themselves. As much an examination of an unraveling relationship as it is a portrait of New York City’s contribution to the genre of hip-hop, this is a must-see flick. Check the trailer below.
