Now that Ubisoft has opened a new film studio in Paris, the French game publisher is turning its focus to working up 3D movie titles based on games such as Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Assassin's Creed.
This isn't the first time that we've had to worry about some of Hollywood's worst actors stepping into the pixelated shoes of gaming giants. Splinter Cell was actually picked up years ago with Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) attached to direct. Since then, not a peep has been heard about the Tom Clancy espionage thriller...until now.
Ubisoft's film arm, which launched in January, is now planning a trip to Los Angeles next month to start taking meetings with studios and writers' agents. With Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, and Ghost Recon having all achieved blockbuster status in the video game world, it should be no surprise that Ubisoft wants to "keep ownership, retain control over the film content, and eventually collaborate on the pre-casting, pre-budget and script" of those specific projects. The plan is to have a script ready for at least Assassin's Creed by the end of the year.
Knowing how adept Hollyweird is at casting hot women in video game movies, we can at least be sure that Ezio and Sam Fisher will have some eye candy to go with their fledgling film careers.
