New "Rage" Trailer Reveals Wonderfully Destructive Toys

We have one simple request, and that is to have spiders with machine guns attached to their heads. Don't ask us why, we're feeling aggressive

A brand-spankin'-new trailer from id Software’s post-apocalyptic shooter/RPG/vehicle game, Rage, walks us through a mission and showcases the gameplay variety they have achieved.  Imagine you’re the MacGyver of the wasteland and this is your story:

To get to the mission objective, you cruise through a canyon in your dune buggy of death, laying waste to enemies and making impossible jumps. You arrive at the Shrouded Bunker and go on foot as you seek to destroy some bomb caches. Mutant soldiers pin you down, but you deploy a robotic spider turret that leaps ahead of you, mowing down foes and clearing the way. Towards the end of the mission, the opposing forces have bunkered into a solid defensive position—but you’re prepared, setting up an automated turret to apply suppressing fire. The explosives you need to eliminate are found through a passage too small for you to enter; normally you’d be screwed, but in Rage you simply deploy your RC car and pilot it through the passage before detonating it and completing your mission.

For most this would be a lifetime's worth of adventure, but for MacGyver it's all in a day’s work. Or Rage. Which comes out September 13. [via Joystiq]
