Today, thousands of Americans are hitting up their local cantinas for happy hour and toasting margaritas to what they think is Mexico's Independence Day. Yet, today actually commemorates the country's victory over France in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. While you might be surprised at how obscure that historical fact is, you might also want to note that it's more celebrated in the United States than it is in Mexico. Then again, we'll gladly adopt any holiday that makes celebratory binge drinking seem acceptable. Don't deny it; you've got an unopened Patron chilling in the freezer, too.
