Alec Soth, a photographer known for his large-form work, tracked down a handful of Americans that have chosen to live completely off the grid. Finding refuge in caves and cabins or simply hiding from the rest of society, these individuals opened up to Soth about their decisions to turn their back on modern culture. Chilling in some respects—if you’ve ever read Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, you’ll know why—and endearing in others, the film aims to shed light on people who might be labeled “hermits.” Soth will attend this screening along with the filmmakers.—Finn Cohen
