Amazon Slashes Popular Song Prices To 69 Cents

The online retailer undercuts iTunes with its latest price drop.

Amazon is gunning for the top digital music spot, and judging from its latest move, it's willing to do whatever it takes to win. Amazon MP3 on Friday released a list of popular songs that users can purchase for just $0.69

For those of you that actually purchase music, you'll notice that's nearly half the $1.29 price Apple's iTunes charges for some of the same songs. Apple raised the prices of its premium and popular songs in 2007 from $0.99 to $1.29.

The list includes current singles from Wiz Khalifa ("Roll Up"), Lady Gaga ("Born This Way"), Lil Wayne ("John"), Kanye West ("All Of The Lights"), and 200 other songs.

There's no word on if the music companies are giving Amazon a better price on the songs (highly unlikely) or if the online retailer is just taking a financial hit to move more units (very likely).
