The first clip from the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web show, a continuation of director Kevin Tancharoen's short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, has just been released for your viewing pleasure. Warner Bros. let loose the video to drum up support for the action-adventure show starring Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan, who play Jax and Sonya Blade, respectively.

Unfortunately, everything that made Rebirth so interesting seems to have been left on the cutting room floor in this one-minute-plus spot. In the video, we find Jax fighting Kano (played by 300's Darren Shahlavi) in a factory. After a brief bullet exchange, the two begin their mortal kombat until they accidentally launch a grenade into the floor at their feet, forcing them to put the fists to bed while they run for cover.

The action is well choreographed, and it's clear that Tancharoen's budget is backed by the Bugs Bunny corporation, but there's nothing about this video that says, "Get over here!" The new-look Kano is nothing close to the bold reimaginings of characters like Reptile and Baraka (which you can see below in the related links); he's more like a thug with a knife than the leader of the international crime cartel known as the Black Dragon.

What are your thoughts about the clip? Is this just a lackluster scene? Or just a tip of the iceberg?

Mortal Kombat: Legacy premieres on the Machinima YouTube channel on April 12 with the video game following shortly for the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 on April 19.
