Production is currently underway on Universal PicturesSafe House, with acclaimed director Daniel Espinosa (Snabba Cash) making his Hollywood debut. And now he has his leading lady in Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Source Code).

Most of the news about this flick has flown under the radar with Universal at one point struggling to find the right co-star to join leading man Denzel Washington. After a sifting through a laundry list of possible candidates, which included Chris Pine, Taylor Kitsch, Tom Hardy, Sam Worthington, and Zac Efron, Ryan Reynolds ultimately landed the job.

The plot finds Reynolds' CIA agent overseeing the transfer of a dangerous criminal (Washington) after a CIA-operated safe house is attacked. Farmiga joins the cast to play a "CIA operative supervising Reynolds' character," according to Deadline. Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, and Robert Patrick fill out the additional roles.

Safe House is on track for a February 10, 2012 release.
