Live Show Alert: The Kills in Philly Wednesday (4/27)

If the White Stripes had angry libidos.

Knotan

Since their arrival on the updated-blues-duo scene in 2003,the Kills have proved themselves as a much darker alternative to the White Stripes. The comparison is inevitable given the timing of their respective hype explosions, but where the red-and-white pair filtered a variety of styles through pop masquerading as blues, the Kills sound downright mean. If their sound was a person, it would probably spit in your drink at the bar while you were looking away—or even if you were looking.  They’d dare you to make a move. There’s also far more sexual tension inherent in their snaky, filthy riffs and distorted beats than anything that Jack or Meg came up with. —Finn Cohen
