Chicagoans have been raiding the Doughnut Vault since it opened on Tuesday. Perfect example: They're already closed for today, because they sold out of all their goods in a little more than an hour. The small, cash-only walkup-window shop is filled with fresh doughnuts made on location daily by pastry chef François. They offer buttermilk, gingerbread, and glazed varieties (in vanilla, chocolate, and chestnut), with daily specials coming soon.
Doughnuts range from $2 to $3; add a $1 coffee for a great combo. There's no set hours at the moment—they're open until they sell out of goods—but check their Twitter account for updates on when they're serving. Rumor has it that a doughnut truck modeled after an armored car is next on the agenda. *Assembles Dead Presidents-esque clique.*
