Apple Developing Multi-Camera 3D System For iPhone

Is 3D coming to the iPhone? A newly revealed patent says yes.

None

Nintendo's 3DS, with its two rear cameras and glasses-free 3D display, put the power of 3D picture taking and 3D video watching into the hands of regular consumers. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple is looking to do the same with its iPhone in the near future.

The Patent Office revealed a patent filed by Apple titled "Systems and Methods for an Imaging System Using Multiple Image Sensors". The system would allow a device to capture, process, and render 3D images with a built-in dual-camera setup.

The described system would be able to take 3D still images and record 3D video. In true Apple fashion, the setup and calibration of the system would be very easy and only need to be performed once.
