Will Sasso has officially signed on to portray the iconic Curly Howard in The Farrelly Brothers long-in-development Three Stooges. The MADtv alum is the first piece of the filmmaking siblings' puzzle, with funnyman Hank Azaria (The Smurfs, The Simpsons) said to up for the part of Stooge leader Moe Howard. Sounds like great casting for a film that's had issues getting Johnny Knoxville, Jim Carrey, and Sean Penn to sign on the dotted line. Even more surprising is the word that James Marsden (Hop, X-Men) could join the duo as the man in the middle, Larry Fine.

Before you start with the Cyclops jokes, check out his portrayal of the character Rex in 2008's Sex Drive and Oscar in 2010's Death at a Funeral remake. He steals the show on both accounts and presents himself as a comedic force to consider. On the strength of that alone, Marsden could be a potentially great casting pick-up.

The Three Stooges will be divided into three 27-minute segments, a throwback to the good ol' days, and according to Peter Farrelly will be "more in the tone of Dumb and Dumber than anything else we've done."

The film is aiming for a PG-rating and is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.
