23. MEAGAN GOOD AS KARA IN BRICK (2005)

Writer-director Rian Johnson’s Brick is a clever and deftly executed modern-day noir set inside a high school full of kids who speak like James Cagney. It’s also complete with treacherous dames, key ingredients to any good noir.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a heartbroken loner out to avenge his girlfriend’s murder. One of his information providers is drama queen Kara, played with Eartha Kitt-like smokiness by Meagan Good. She’s a play actress who always gets her way and is quick to tease men with her body while dropping dime on her fellow untrustworthy peers. Good’s screen time is limited in Brick, but she makes every second count. We’d like to see the staunchest of “No Snitching” preachers shun her alternately ratty and seductive methods.
