16. KIM WALKER, SHANNEN DOHERTY, AND LISANNE FALK AS HEATHER CHANDLER, HEATHER DUKE, AND HEATHER MCNAMARA IN HEATHERS (1989)

An outgoing guidance counselor would go apeshit inside Ohio’s Westerberg High School, the institution at the center of the superb dark comedy Heathers. He or she would be wise to focus on the school’s most popular clique, known as the Heathers. They’re three chicks who share the same first name, bad attitudes, and promiscuous nature, as well as damaging insecurities that boil over into suicide and a third-act explosion.

The worst one of all is Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), an evil wench quick to throw her friends under the proverbial bus. At one point, Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk) phones a radio show and confesses to being depressed, not knowing that Queen B Duke is listening. The next day, Duke blabbers all of McNamara’s reveals around campus; beyond hurt, Heather M crams one too many pills into her mouth in a failed suicide attempt. And that’s just a sampling of the naughty deeds seen in Heathers. No wonder we never see any counselors in the movie—they probably all quit.
