Live Show Alert: Big Star's "Third" Live in NYC Saturday (3/26)

On the one year anniversary of lead singer Alex Chilton's death, a cult rock classic is lovingly recreated.

Sadly, Big Star earned plenty of critical praise and props from established musicians during their career but they never found an audience proportionate to their immense talent. Now, in 2011, lead singer Alex Chilton (focus of this great Complex primer) is dead, but thanks to events like this live performance of Third, Big Star may yet find the large listenership they deserve.

Saturday, Third will finally be performed live with the original string and wind arrangements that make it such a powerful record. Assisting in the performance will be original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Matthew Sweet, producer Mitch Easter, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake, and singer Tift Merritt.

This is the sort of event you moved to New York to be able to see.
