Valve is no stranger to the pitfalls that hackers can cause to a business. They lived the nightmare when their Half-Life 2 source code was stolen from their servers years ago. Valve co-founder, Gabe Newell, spoke about Steam’s security at GDC last week stating, "Account phishing and hijacking are our #1 support issues." Their solution is Steam Guard, a service that allows users to restrict their accounts to a specific Intel-powered PC. If enabled, Steam Guard will not allow access to your Steam account from any other device. Gabe Newell was so confident in Steam Guard’s security that he announced his Steam username and password and urged people to try and access his account. We’ll see how well that turns out for him.
