Her first film as a director, Whip It, explored the manacial world of roller derby and now Drew Barrymore is entering an area where the stakes (and injury) are much higher. Locking into the romance genre with How to Be Single, Barrymore is set to direct the Valentine's Day-style multi-strand story based on Liz Tuccillo's novel. The film will chronicle the break-ups and make-ups of a group of New Yorkers as they groove to the love fantastic across 10 years.

Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn (He's Just Not That Into You) have been recruited by the former child actress to turn Single into a screenplay. New Line Cinema, which also produced Not That Into You, is also on-board to push Barrymore and regular producing partner Nancy Juvonen's love-child to the masses.

No word yet on casting or when she'll start shooting, but we're hoping someone sets her up on a blind date to get those creative romantical juices flowing.
