Seems like Zack Snyder's Superman film is attracting some notable talent. Back in late January, it was announced that Henry Cavill will don the "S" logo to leap over buildings in a single bound; today, we learn that Diane Lane will play Martha "Ma" Kent. This won't be Lane's first time playing the mother of a super-powered guy; the Oscar-nominated actress played Hayden Christensen's mother in the 2008 misfire Jumper. Here's hoping that Snyder and company have something deeper in store for Ma Kent this time around.

The Sucker Punch director spoke on the casting, via press release, saying, "This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination."

The new Superman movie is slated for release in December 2012, based on a story by David S. Goyer (who also wrote the screenplay) and Christopher Nolan.
