The "Spider-Man" Reboot Officially Has A Title

Andrew Garfield's shot at superhero infamy sets the bar high, name-wise.

How can director Marc Webb separate his currently in-production Spider-Man reboot from Sam Raimi’s mega-popular, Tobey-Maguire-starring trilogy? An entirely new movie title certainly won’t hurt. Columbia Pictures has Deadline that the (500) Days Of Summer filmmaker’s fresh take on the story of Peter Parker (this time played by The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield, seen above) will be titled The Amazing Spider-Man, for all of you superlative-slingers out there.

As previously confirmed, joining Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man will be Emma Stone (as love interest Gwen Stacy), Martin Sheen, Rhys Ifans (as the villain, Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard), Irrfan Khan (known from Slumdog Millionaire), Denis Leary, and Sally Field. Webb is shooting the film, scheduled for July 3, 2012, entirely in 3D.

In addition to the title news, Columbia Pictures has also issued the first picture of Garfield in the full-on Spider-Man costume, ready to sling a web or two; the pic can be seen to the right. Call us crazy, but everything about this project thus far seems right on the money.
