Austin's Péché is one of the best places to drink in. Not just in Austin; anywhere. Styled in the fashion of pre-prohibition bar with a Francophile aesthetic, Péché offers complicated cocktails made by expert bartenders. The bar itself is narrow, stocked with comfortable couches and chairs, everything done up in a palette of absinthe-green and black. Which makes sense considering how many of these drinks contain absinthe.
One of these masterpieces is the
Corpse Reviver No. 2, a concoction of gin, absinthe, lemon, Cointreau, and Lillet Blanc. A darkly red cherry floats at the bottom like a blind eye. Feeling like a corpse is not an unusual experience after drinking (for us, anyway), and this cocktail, tart and lively, is the perfect "hair of the dog" remedy to, well, revive you.
