Why we’re excited: How does Martin Scorcese, one of the greatest directors of all time, follow up his creepiest film, last year’s Shutter Island? By making his first children’s movie, naturally. Oh, and in 3D, another first for Uncle Marty. Well, if anyone can do it, it’s him. Based on Brian Selznick’s picture-heavy, 2007 kid’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Scorcese travels back to 1930’s Paris for the story of an orphan (13-year-old Asa Butterfield) living in a train station. Marty’s name might have you anticipating mafia-style shootouts on the tracks, with random oldies (Nas’s “Thief’s Theme,” perhaps) in the background, but think again.
