One thing the music genre never figured out was hip-hop. By now, the genre has faded, but Def Jam Rapstar gets it so right that we still find ourselves playing it more than we should be. The setlist is decidedly mainstream, but hip-hop enough—"A Milli," "Scenario,""Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See"—that we don't feel confined to Yung Joc tunes. The community functionality, still in beta, feels a bit underwhelming, but thanks to a discerning sound-recognition engine and a deep-ass catalog (the DLC still continues to impress), we're looking at a game that actually makes rapping a viable gameplay mechanic. Should you cop? Yes, yes, y'all!
