Don't look now, but there's a skateboarding feature film making the festival rounds that's actually dope (alas, too late for those of us who already gleamed our own cubes with ball-peen hammers). MachoTailDrop tells the story of Walter Rhum, a young skater who sees his dream of riding for his favorite company (the eponymous MachoTailDrop) come true, only to find that his bizarre new team is not as benevolent as he thought. The flick is funny, weird, a little spooky, and, strangest of all, the skating scenes don't come off like somebody's drunk uncle's vision of what skateboarding is.
MachoTailDrop is screening this Friday at Tribeca Cinemas, with an exclusive pre-event featuring a meet and greet with the directors as well as product giveaways and free food and drink.
