Mumford & Sons Want to Make Hip-Hop

1.

There are many variations on the theme of “Mo Money Mo Problems,” and one of the best examples is with indie bands who make it big and then start getting hated on. While Mumford & Sons have stayed pretty faithful to the style that made them one of indie’s most talked about bands in the last few years, they’ve also received their fair share of criticism for a somewhat predictable sound.

Well, their next move isn’t a predictable one, but there’s a good chance they’ll be getting some more criticism. Unless Mumford was joking with Rolling Stone, the band’s next move could be into hip-hop.

“We definitely had a graduation to go through with the sound that we had through Sigh No More to Babel, and that sound to us feels satisfied. And that’s a sound we’ll always play. The world has been really supportive of those songs, but then there’s other sounds we want to make.”

When asked what kind of sounds, Mumford explains, “Like, hip-hop. We really want to rap. We’ve just got so much to say – saying it through a melody doesn’t really work for me. We’ve been talking with Jay-Z about it, you know. It’s gonna be a fresh experience for our band.”
